Official Statements:

Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan regarding nuclear tests carried out by Korean People’s Democratic Republic on October 9 2006

As a state that has closed a nuclear testing site and a member of the Non-proliferation Treaty, Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, Central Asia Nuclear Free Zone Treaty, the Republic of Kazakhstan views as a wrong one the decision of the Korean People’s Democratic Republic to carry out nuclear weapon test and condemns the action of October 9 2006.

We are convinced that this step will aggravate scaled crises in the field of non-proliferation and will damage global security.

The Republic of Kazakhstan urges North Korea to return to the Six Party Talks with China, Russia, USA, South Korea and Japan and abandon nuclear ambitions.
